  • (a)

In order to obtain a class "A" license, the applicant must be at least 21 years of age. For purposes of taking the examination required by this division, the term "applicant" shall refer to an individual applicant or a supervisor representing an applicant that is a corporation or other firm eligible to be the holder of a license as hereinafter provided. No such person shall take an examination for a license unless he has had at least four years' experience in the heating, air conditioning and ventilating fields of residential, commercial or industrial construction; and is able to furnish proof of such experience. A certificate or diploma from a recognized school of heating, air conditioning and ventilating will be accepted in lieu of two of the four years' experience hereinabove mentioned. Two years of heating, air conditioning and ventilating experience in the United States military service will be accepted in lieu of one year of the four years' experience stated above. However, not more than two years' credit shall be given for military experience. All applicants must be reviewed by the board of examiners. The applicant must have a letter of reference from each contractor listed on his application, verifying his apprenticeship.

    (b)

The applicant shall also be required to obtain a grade of not less than 70 percent on a written examination, which shall consist of questions that will show his ability and fitness for the license desired. Testing accomplished by a professional testing company/organization or a current license with similar or greater testing standard may be accepted by the building commissioner in lieu of the testing provisions identified herein at the discretion of the building commissioner or by the policy of an examining board, if applicable.
