§ 105-75. Architectural character and style.

  • The basic aesthetic idea of a proposal shall be considered holistically relative to the context of its location and the scope of the proposed improvement. New buildings and substantial modifications of property shall be designed by a design professional in the relation to the specific characteristics of the site, the surrounding area, and the intent of this chapter. The applicable seal or other relevant proof of professional certification shall be considered appropriate documentation relative to design professional status. The use of boilerplate buildings and architectural features shall be discouraged. This chapter shall not dictate the appropriateness of a specific architectural style, except inasmuch as said style otherwise complies with the intent of this chapter. The replication of existing historic styles of architecture within the city shall be encouraged only when the location or context of a proposal would warrant as deemed by the plan commission, or its designee.
