§ 105-210. Street trees.

  • Deciduous shade trees shall be planted within public street rights-of-way and along the banks of the St. Joseph River. Trees shall be planted a maximum of 30 linear feet on center, based on the total frontage and the location of high quality existing trees intended to be preserved. Trees shall be planted in an urban context. This shall include providing cast iron tree grates within sidewalk areas where appropriate. The use of male Ginkgo biloba (maidenhair tree) shall be encouraged along public road rights-of-way and along the banks of the St. Joseph River. Trees shall be nursery quality material installed at a 3½-inch to four-inch caliper size and shall be limbed to seven feet clear.
