§ 2-76. Organization meeting.

  • The members of the common council shall choose from the members of the council a presiding officer who shall be called the president, and a vice-president who shall preside in the absence of the president, which officers shall serve until the first meeting in January of the next succeeding year, when their successors shall be chosen to serve for one year in like manner. In the event that neither the president nor the vice-president are present at a council meeting, the president may, prior to the meeting, appoint any member of the council to preside at the meeting. In the event of the failure of said appointment by the president, the chairman of the budget and finance committee shall preside at the meeting.
