§ 105-149. Off-street parking areas.

  • (a)

    Fifty spaces or fewer. Parking areas that contain 50 spaces or fewer shall be designed to limit the use of frontage on public rights-of-way. Parking shall be designed to be located behind or between buildings. The utilization of small residual areas between buildings within developed areas for parking shall be encouraged. Angled parking shall be discouraged within new developments except where parcel configuration would otherwise restrict the development of standard 90-degree spaces. It is also encouraged that within new development parking areas be developed in accordance with the standards identified for parking areas greater than 50 spaces in subsection (b) of this section.

    (b)

    Greater than 50 spaces. Contiguous parking areas that contain greater than 50 spaces shall be designed reflective of urban conditions to maximize the use of property. Parking shall be designed on multiple levels. The shared use, occupancy, and maintenance of structures shall be encouraged. Parking structures shall be designed as per the building design requirements identified by this chapter. Parking structures greater than two stories above ground shall incorporate retail space or a different ground level treatment along public rights-of-way.
